What moon phase was I born under?
The moon was somewhere in its month the night you arrived — or the night your baby did. Find it.
Any date works — yours, your baby’s, anyone’s.
The eight phases, & what each one means at birth
- New MoonA dark sky, a fresh cycle, & a soul that starts everything from the inside.
- Waxing CrescentA thin curve of light low in the west, & a will that is just learning it has a will.
- First Quarter MoonHalf lit & pushing — the moon that acts, & the child who acts with it.
- Waxing GibbousAlmost full, still refining — & a child who notices the one thing everyone else missed.
- Full MoonEverything visible, the sky at its most awake — & a child who feels out loud.
- Waning GibbousJust past full — the moon that shares what it saw, & the child who tells you everything.
- Last Quarter MoonHalf dark & letting go — the turn inward, & a child who needs room to think.
- Waning CrescentThe last light before the dark — rest, release, return — & a child with a whole world inside.
Common questions
What moon phase was I born under?
Type your birth date into the finder above. It names the phase that night, how much of the moon was lit, & which day of the lunar month it was. For the exact Sun–Moon angle, pull your free chart with the time & place.
Does the moon phase at birth mean anything in astrology?
Yes — it’s the angle between the Sun & the Moon in your chart, & astrologers read it as the relationship between who you are & how you feel. A new-moon birth & a full-moon birth describe two different instincts. Every Cosmic Cub reading interprets it.
Is a full moon baby different?
In the chart, a full moon means the Sun & Moon sit opposite each other — feeling & identity pulling from two sides, which often reads as a child who is very aware of other people. More babies are not actually born on full moons; the studies keep failing to find it.
How accurate is this calculator?
To within a few hours. The moon moves about half a degree an hour, so a date right on a phase boundary can tip either way. The full chart uses Swiss Ephemeris with your exact time & place.
