A birth chart (astrologers say natal chart; same thing) is the sky at the minute & place you were born, drawn as a wheel. Ten planets, two nodes, four angles, twelve houses, & the geometry between all of it. It was set before you took a breath, & it hasn’t moved since.
This natal chart calculator runs on the Swiss Ephemeris, the same planetary data professional astrologers & most observatories rely on. Every placement is printed to the degree & arcminute, so you can check it against any other chart you’ve had done. Houses use Placidus, the most widely used system in modern Western astrology. If you’ve had a chart drawn before & the rising sign came out different somewhere, a house system is usually why (& I answer that below).
I’ve been reading charts for thirteen years, & I built this because I was tired of calculators that round the moon to the sign & hide the degree. The degree is where the interesting things live. You get to see it.
Birth date, birth place & birth time. Time is the one to chase down: it sets your rising sign, your houses & the exact position of your moon, which moves about a degree every two hours. Your birth certificate has it (in most U.S. states, the long-form version). So might your mother, your baby book or a hospital record.
If it’s truly gone, enter the chart anyway. You still get your sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn & the outer planets, plus the aspects between them, & your moon sign holds on most days. Here’s the full picture: do you need a birth time?
Your full natal chart, free. No account required to look at it.
A chart is a map. A personalized birth chart reading is someone walking it with you, in order, pointing at what matters. The adult reading is fifteen chapters written from your exact placements for an adult meeting their own chart: your core essence, your emotional world, your mind & the way it moves, how you love, how you work, what you carry & what you’re here to grow into. Every chapter names the placement behind it, so you can hold the reading up against the wheel & check. $39, once. Delivered as a keepsake PDF you can print or keep.
This is an in depth birth chart reading, with the emphasis on depth. If a line could apply to every person born in your month, it didn’t make it in. (Sun-sign columns are fun. This one starts from your exact degrees.)
You can pull one for someone else, too. A partner. A sibling. Your own mother, if you want to understand her better. Enter their birth details instead of yours & the reading is theirs.
Here’s the idea behind everything on this site. Your chart is fixed; your life phase decides which parts of it are lit. The same moon sign reads one way at twenty-two & another way with a newborn on your chest. So every Cosmic Cub reading takes the same properly calculated chart & reads it for where you actually are.
Expecting, or holding a brand-new person? Pull your baby’s chart & meet them before they can tell you. Deep in it? Your chart as a mother reads your moon for how you nurture & what refills you. Anywhere else in your life at all? This page, & the adult reading, are for you.
One chart. Read for the chapter you’re in. That’s the whole method, & I think it’s the honest way to do a birth chart reading online: the sky doesn’t change, so the reading has to know who’s asking.
The astronomy is exact when the calculator uses real ephemeris data. This one runs on the Swiss Ephemeris, which places every planet to a fraction of a degree, & prints the degree & arcminute so you can verify each placement. Accuracy on your end depends on the birth time you enter; a time off by an hour can shift the rising sign & houses.
None. “Birth chart” & “natal chart” are two names for the same map of the sky at the moment you were born. “Natal” is the older, more technical word; “birth chart” is what most people say. Either search brings you to the same calculator.
Placidus, the most widely used house system in modern Western astrology, & every written reading is done in Placidus. On your free chart you can switch between Placidus & Whole Sign to see which planets change houses. If a chart you had drawn elsewhere puts planets in different houses, a different house system such as Whole Sign or Koch is usually the reason. The planets’ signs & degrees stay the same across every system.
A free chart shows you the placements. A written reading tells you what they mean together, in your chart specifically, which is where most people get stuck on their own. If you want language for the patterns you already sense in yourself, a reading written from your exact chart gives you that. If you are curious & happy to learn the symbols yourself, the free chart plus the guide articles will take you a long way.
A written reading needs your birth time: the rising sign & all twelve houses shape every chapter. The free chart works without one. It shows your sun, moon (on most days), Mercury, Venus, Mars, the outer planets & the aspects between them, & sets aside the rising sign & houses. The time is usually on the long-form birth certificate or in the hospital records; once you find it, pull the chart again with the full picture.
